This thesis will cover how the Internet serves Scouting. The thesis will be broken into two areas. In the first area, types of electronic resources will be identified as well as how they can be used. The second area will discuss the pros and cons associated with having Scouting information on the Internet. The result will guide any Scout or Scouter in the use of Internet resources which would best benefit the Scouting program.

The first area will address the different types of electronic resources. It will show what is available in each type, what makes each type useful for the information being presented, and how the use of different types of electronic services, even less popular ones, can provide for better control of material distribution. Examples of some of the better sites in each type will be presented.

The second area will explore the pros and cons of the Internet as a resource for Scouting. It will discuss some of the early uncertainties, some problems which still exist, and areas where problems have been resolved. Ideas for future uses will also be presented.

The appendix will provide many examples of the types of information available across the Internet and around the world. In addition, it will have a getting started section which will be especially useful to Scouts and Scouters who have never been on the Internet before. Also, because of the technical jargon used on the Internet which may be unfamiliar to many readers, a glossary will be included.
