MeritBadge.com Volunteers

Want to be a volunteer?

Thanks! That's greatly appreciated!

Here's what we are looking for. In order to help with this site, you must:

  1. Be a registered adult leader in the Boy Scouts of America (at least 18 years old).
  2. Be a registered member of the MeritBadge.net forums.
  3. Email me a copy of your BSA Membership Card and your Drivers License.
  4. Talk with me personally to verify all of the above.

I apologize about these strict requirements but I am a firm believer in youth protection. I don't know you so this is at least a start in the right direction. Hopefully I will get to know you better as we work together to help Scouts advance.

Volunteer Activities

Ok, this is a new thing for me so please be patient. MeritBadge.com has been a one man show for most of it's life. It wasn't until Rob Greenland came along that I really started using outside materials. Rob is a wonderful friend and I consider him an important part of this site's development team even if he is a little shy about it.

As for you, the perspective volunteer, here's what I'm thinking at the moment. If you'll look at our new forums, you'll notice that advancement is divided into three portions plus awards while merit badges are divided into fourteen areas. These groupings divide the Boy Scout Advancement Program up into eighteen logical and manageable groups. I'm hoping to get volunteers to take on one or more groups and help in those areas.

What kind of help? Well, that's what you will define. Here are some thoughts...

bulletRead the forum areas you have volunteered for regularly. When people ask questions, answer them if you can and encourage them if you can't answer.
bulletKeep up with resources available on this site and other Scouting sites and guide people towards those resources if they need them.
bulletHelp supplement the resource links on the individual merit badge pages for your subjects by finding new resources for them on the web.

Sounds like a lot, doesn't it. What you're reading above is exactly what I do with all the emails I receive every day and with my work in finding new resources on the web.

Now, imagine if there were five of us doing all this instead of just me? How about ten? How about eighteen, one for each group? Divided up this way, the job becomes much easier for all of us and we'll probably end up doing three to four times as much for Scouting together as I do all by myself right now.

Besides, it's just one hour a week

I hope you'll take me up on this offer. Thanks.
